In 1830, Merseyside was the staging ground for the greatest innovation Europe had ever seen: a railway that ran between two major cities. The story of its creation – at the hands of a potty inventor George Stevenson – has gone on to become mythic. But why was the railway so important? Who did the actual building? And how did it cause (literal) bloody murder?

To commemorate 200 years of train travel, HRH Aphrodite I invites you to discover a new history of the Liverpool to Manchester Railway. In a bold new production, discover the hidden histories behind the Navvies, The Rainhill Trials, and the star at the centre of it all: The Rocket. Told through a working model railway, Aphrodite puts you in the driver’s seat to experience our local history first-hand, and play a role in Liverpool’s own industrial revolution. All aboard for an hour-long thrill ride through a truly bizarre chapter of our nation’s past. ‘The Fire King’ is an hour-long participatory show for lovers, haters, and users of railways of all ages.

Recommended for audiences aged 14+.
