‘Welcome to Greywater’. A dull town like any other, Greywater is filled with the usual suspects, the oldies complain about the younguns, the local factory provides jobs and there’s no free parking in town. But the people of Greywater persevere! Merl and his friends find ways to entertain themselves whilst they grapple with the boredom of unemployed life.
An immersive exhibition by local artist Kiya Major. Walking you through the fictional town of Greywater.
Kiya is a rug maker, illustrator, animator, and event promoter. Their practice is playful and bold, exploring humour, failure, the grotesque through textiles, drawing, and moving images. Recently, they have been creating large-scale rugs that expand on their drawings. Their perspective brings a contemporary and irreverent energy to traditional textile practices, using bold colour and figurative references. Their work has been exhibited at Textile Junction, Supernormal Festival, 9A Projects and various galleries nationally. They have recently collaborated with performance artists at The Unity Theatre to create animations for live shows. Kiya is a Queercore Artist Grant Winner 2026. They are currently developing animation, sound, and 3D sculpture, bringing these elements together to build an interconnected visual world.
‘I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity given to me by Homotopia’s Queercore Grant by putting on an exhibition showcasing everything I’ve been working on this year. Intended as an installation I don’t want to shy away from the fact this is a work in progress, challenging the idea that an exhibition needs to be polished. I hope it’s more of a polished turd kind of vibe.’ – Kiya Major.
