One Woman is the film exploration of how Cheryl Martin’s mental health was shaped as a reaction to childhood abuse and trauma, and how she transcended it.
In this newly produced digital version of the play, the use of binaural sound, mesmeric images and music takes the audience inside how it feels to live with Borderline Personality Disorder.
Cheryl Martin is an older black lesbian disabled theatre artist (that’s right she hit the jackpot!) who’s won awards as writer & director. In 2018 she was Homotopia Festival’s Guest Curator and we’re excited to welcome her back.
This screening will be accompanied by a Q&A session with Cheryl.
Note: To get the full affect of binaural sound, we recommend listening to the show on headphones.
Access: Artistically organic text is is built into the film for accessibility.
Content Warning: One Woman, which deals with some of the reasons why Cheryl grew up with severe depression, is recommended for viewers aged 14+. Trigger warnings for mentions of: suicide, sexual and emotional abuse.
