Join us for the launch of ‘Queer Places’ – A Guide to Liverpool’s LGBTQ+ Spaces: Past, Present & Future by Luke Fawcett.

A completely free A4 guide celebrating the vibrant, humble and sometimes filthy LGBTQ+ spaces of Liverpool’s past, present and future. Sharing the tales told by our community, we shine a light on the people and their selfless resistance that made these spaces possible – whilst revealing the fragility of our heritage and what we should prioritise as a community to preserve, collect and share.

An exciting part of the project is re-modelling our Queer haunts. Using people’s memories, archival photographs and records, we revisit these places and uncover their stories through 3D models and illustrations – beginning to create new ways of interacting with our intangible heritage.

The guide launches the beginning of a larger project, ‘Queer Places’, where we hope to build a growing archive of LGBTQ+ spaces, focusing on creating detailed and sensory experiences of them. The goal is to rebuild these landmarks from the memories and ephemera of the people that visited them, to connect generations of LGBTQ+ people across time and rediscover our lost heritage.

We will be creating a ‘time capsule’ of memories of Homotopia and queer Liverpool, so please bring along your stories, souvenirs and any dusty artefacts of festival’s past to be added to the Homotopia archive at Central Library.
