In 2009 Homotopia worked with Merseyside Police, Armistead & GYRO and took a group of young people to Poland visiting Warsaw, Cracow and sites of remembrance at Auschwitz-Birkenau. The trip forged many new international partnerships and also the beginnings of a new chapter in the development of both our international arts programme and burgeoning social justice work.
Homotopia are thrilled to be producing some major international projects in 2010 and early 2011. At the end of November we will begin a series of interventions and research in Istanbul, Turkey with the award winning Pansy Project. In January 2011 Homotopia is producing a landmark project in Turku, Finland as part of their European Capital Of Culture 2011. The hugely popular Tom Of Finland Retrospective which was one of our blockbuster shows in 2008 will return to Finland for the entire year. The exhibition is a unique and wonderful opportunity not only for the festival but also important for the legacy of 2008 and the city’s cultural offer. ‘Tom’s Coming Home’ is particularly special as he was born in the Turku province and next year will be the 20th anniversary of his death.
